Composite vortices in nonlinear circular waveguide arrays
It is known that, in continuous media, composite solitons with hidden vorticity, which are built of two mutually symmetric vortical components whose total angular momentum is zero, may be stable while their counterparts with explicit vorticity and nonzero total angular momentum are unstable. In this work, we demonstrate that the opposite occurs in discrete media: hidden vortex states in relativ...
متن کاملNonlinear infrared plasmonic waveguide arrays
The large negative permittivity of noble metals in the infrared region prevents the possibility of highly confined plasmons in simple waveguide structures such as thin films or rods. This is a critical obstacle to applications of nonlinear plasmonics in the telecommunication wavelength region. We theoretically propose and numerically demonstrate that such limitation can be overcome by exploitin...
متن کاملDiscrete reduced-symmetry solitons and second-band vortices in two-dimensional nonlinear waveguide arrays.
Considering a two-dimensional lattice of weakly coupled waveguides, where each waveguide may carry two orthogonal modes of dipolar character, we present a nonlinear discrete vector model for the study of Kerr optical solitons with profiles having a reduced symmetry relative to the underlying lattice. We describe analytically and numerically existence and stability properties of such states in s...
متن کاملCompeting nonlinearities in quadratic nonlinear waveguide arrays.
We demonstrate experimentally the existence of competing focusing and defocusing nonlinearities in a double-resonant system with quadratic nonlinear response. We use an array of periodically poled coupled optical waveguides and observe inhibition of the nonlinear beam self-action independent on power. This inhibition is demonstrated in both regimes of normal and anomalous beam diffraction.
متن کاملInterlaced linear-nonlinear optical waveguide arrays.
The system of coupled discrete equations describing a two-component superlattice with interlaced linear and nonlinear constituents is studied as a basis for investigating binary waveguide arrays, such as ribbed AlGaAs structures, among others. Compared to the single nonlinear lattice, the interlaced system exhibits an extra band-gap controlled by the, suitably chosen by design, relative detunin...
